In order to keep the system safe from would be criminals attempting to get a free ride I contacted TeleSign, a website security company specializing in password authentication for website which our consulting firm had used in the past already. TeleSign devised a great proposal which incorporated their password authentication system as a means of keeping the new ticketing site secure. When new riders wanted to log into the system to purchase a ticket, they were sent a one time registration code or PIN from TeleSign to an established telephone number. The PIN is used to establish the customer’s identity, payment information as well as a means for tracking their ridership. Once they logged on with this secure two step process their payment method was protected as well. It turned out to be just what the board was looking for at a cost that was well below their original budget. I liked it because TeleSign’s SOAP API based integration platform meant less work for me as a consultant. Best of all the two step authentication solution required no hardware at each station meaning lower ongoing overall maintenance costs. The whole password authentication solution was implemented so quickly that the trains made their maiden voyage last week, two weeks ahead of schedule! Now our trains are packed with riders whose security is as safe as the brand new trains they were riding – all thanks to TeleSign and their wonderful password authentication service they provided for us! |
